SUMMARY
  • Actively monitor and maintain TNCInet service provider network including day to day support of network and systems.
  • Responsibility and focus on IP and TDM voice switching systems.
  • Enters and responds to trouble tickets regarding voice and network issues.
  • Recommends, tests and implements network changes and configurations.
  • Schedule, document and participate in routine network maintenance activities.
  • Works within Tier III engineering group to proactively identify and plan required areas of capacity expansion and non-routine network maintenance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Level 1 Network Engineer is a key member of the TNCInet Tier III support organization and is responsible for maintenance and support of the TNCInet CLEC and ISP carrier network.
  • Actively monitors and maintains the TNCI network to meet performance requirements and customer SLAs.
  • Provides support regarding network configurations, hardware and interface.
  • Focus on administering and maintaining class 4/5 switching systems, session border controllers, media gateways and other voice-specific network equipment.
  • Troubleshoots issues within the network as it relates to continuity and performance, including call routing to and from various SIP and TDM carrier interconnections.
  • Configure and maintain call routing plans within voice network.
  • Test, turn up, document and troubleshoot various circuits and connections.
  • Enters and resolves trouble tickets entered regarding any aspect of network support.
  • Acts as contact person between all levels of customer care and network support.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Outstanding customer service and communications skills.
  • Experience with carrier-grade network operations in a service provider, or qualified enterprise environment. Experience to include troubleshooting, monitoring and deploying network components.
  • Knowledge of network monitoring tools, trouble ticketing systems and network operations processes and procedures.
  • Demonstrate ability to learn quickly and obtain a high-level understanding of all network components and their function.
  • Experience with VoIP and TDM network services and provisioning. Experience maintaining class 4/5 switching systems including switch provisioning, translations and troubleshooting.
  • Understand VoIP signaling methods and codec implementations.
  • Flexible and able to adapt to a fast paced environment while maintaining composure and exercising good judgement and decision-making skills.
  • Should be a motivated self-starter with commitment to completing assigned tasks on time and reliably.
  • Certifications are a plus (Cisco and others).
  • Ability to change schedule according to network requirements including emergency dispatch and responsibility for on-call and after-hour technical support.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • 4 years of college or equivalent training in Network Engineering and/or Voice Switching systems.
  • 3-5 years of hands-on engineering experience in service-provider, enterprise network or network/equipment testing.
  • Direct experience working with Class 4 & 5 switching systems and/or Session Border Controller equipment.
  • Direct experience working with devices utilizing the SIP signaling protocol.
